My dinner last night did not come from a dining hall, restaurant, or even a roadside stand. Rather, the food place was IN the road. It was an old Citroën truck (We do NOT have this brand in the United States) where the back end was converted into a pizza kitchen. Directly behind the cab was a wood stove. So this was the real deal wood fired pizza! And it was delicious!
It was an interesting sight to see at first, something that we don’t have in the United States for sure. But these seem somewhat common here, especially in Oxford. And nearly all of them are the same old Citroën H Van, most of them date from between the 1940’s and 1960’s. It’s quite an interesting concept. And it seems insanely popular. I had to wait more than 40 minutes for my pizza to be ready because of all the people in line ahead of me. It sure was a cool concept, though. And I definitely plan on going back there for food at some point in the future.
