Well, as the title implies, today was the first full day in Norway for the two other exchange students (Anne and Kristen) and myself. It has been a lot of fun. As almost every Norwegian we have met has told us, they eat a lot of bread. However, this bread is much better than we have at home. I really like it. I also liked the fish that I had at supper. It is different in Norway because they eat four meals each day: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Supper. They are all good meals. For supper, two older students took the three of us out to “Happytime Pizzeria”. I did not get pizza, but instead got a kabob. In America, we think of a kabob as meat and vegetables on a stick. Here, however, it is a special kind of meat, with optional salad and dressing, served in a large soft tortilla (another example of the great Norwegian bread). It was amazing, and I know that we will be going back there at some point.
Today, we did not go to class because we were adjusting. We worked on our homework a little before lunch, and then went into Grimstad and Arendal in the afternoon. They were interesting towns, very different from America. The streets are narrow and curving and the buildings are close to the street and sometimes in odd locations. I like the architecture, and have seen some really neat houses and buildings.
I have met quite a few people so far. They are sometimes a little shy to start a conversation with us, but are very willing to talk once we get going. They have all had really good English, and I have had no trouble understanding any of them. It is kind of weird to be around people talking in Norwegian and not knowing what they are saying. We went to a meeting in the morning so that we could get introduced to the student body. Other than our introduction, we understood nothing. Actually, I did understand the word “also”. All of the people here, staff and students are very friendly. I have had a good time with them. Overall, it has been a good first day here in Norway. I am looking forward to the next few weeks.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I’ve been really wanting to try that bread, I’m a big fan of bread but all I really eat is the 99 cent loaf bought at walmart. Your description of the kebab made me want one, would you mind mailing one to me? I have lunch in 2 hours and would very much like to have it by that time. Could you also throw in some chocolate? Actually, no joke on the chocolate, could you bring me back some? I’ll even give you some cash for it if you want :D. I’m a chocoholic and everybody makes it sound like Norwegian choco is the bees knees. That would be a strange feeling being around people you don’t understand. It’s amazing that they all speak English well, makes you wonder what our country is doing wrong seeing as how we only speak very limited Spanish or in my case French. Keep us posted! I’ll be interested to see some pictures and further information, it sounds like an awesome opportunity! Have fun!
