Sorry about the delay in getting this post up. The internet was not working at the hotel on Wednesday night, and we spent all of Thursday and most of today on a bus. This is one of the first opportunities that I have had an internet connection.
Today was our last day in Paris, and it will be a day that I never forget. We were able to sleep in this morning, and we met at 10:00. We took the Metro to the Concorde Plaza, and from there, we walked to Notre Dame. As we walked, we passed the Louvre, and we were able to see the massive glass pyramid. After a rather long, but fun, walk, we made it to Notre Dame. The massive church was quite a beautiful site. We were able to walk through the church. Inside, it was very ornately gothic, and the stained glass paintings were amazing. Those were the only activities for the group, and we split up to go on our own thereafter.
I joined Anne (from America), Aleksander, Kristine, and Frode. We walked to this little shopping district, where we stopped for ice cream. We also took a picture in front of a fountain. We did not spend a lot of time here, and then decided to visit the Louvre. It was a pretty quick walk to get there. The line to get in was long, but quick. Because I was under 18 (verified by my passport), I was able to get in for free. Of course, the man at the entrance of one part of the museum did not believe that I was under 18 years old, but he believed my passport. The reason that we wanted to go to the Louvre was the Mona Lisa, and that is what we decided to visit first. After winding through one wing of the museum, we found it. I was expecting a bigger painting, but it was not huge. It was not small either, but rather it was about midsize. After taking some pictures, we proceeded through some more of the museum. We saw some other famous statues and paintings. It was interesting, but the museum was very hot, so we decided to leave.
Tonje, who had gone back to the hotel sick, wanted to meet us at the Hard Rock Cafe. We hopped on a quick subway and went to Hard Rock. After buying some souvenir t-shirts for me and my family, we sat down to eat. I had the Twisted Mac, Chicken, and Cheese, while Anne and Aleksander just had dessert. Tonje just wanted to buy a shirt and did not eat anything. Being the Beatles fan that I am, I looked around for some Beatles memorabilia. There were some pictures and a jacket of John Lennon’s, as well as a Paul McCartney album. I also took pictures of a Bon Jovi guitar and memorabilia from some artists that my brother likes. After we left, Aleksander and I bought some postcards for people. We went to a post office, and filled them out and sent them. We then went to drop Anne off with some friends.
We then went back to the hotel, where I met up with Kjell Tore. We were going with a group of people to the Eiffel Tower. Kjell Tore, Helge, and I caught the Metro and then walked to the base of the tower. We decided to climb the stairs to the second level, which was around 700 stairs. It took a lot of work, but was worth the effort. We then had to take an elevator up to the top. The view was astounding. We spent some time up there admiring Paris before grabbing a bite to eat back on the second level. We then took the Metro back to the hotel and I spent the rest of the evening packing for the trip home.
