I am a person who is more likely to jump for a free app than a paid app, and I rarely spend more than $3 or $4 for any app, aside from the basics like Pages and Numbers. I decided to pay $10 for the new Adobe Photoshop app for the iPad. I had a free version from Adobe, but as an avid amateur photographer who does a lot from my iPad, I wanted a more robust and powerful editing app.
I haven’t spent too much time playing with Adobe Photoshop Touch, but I am very pleased with the app. With the full version of Adobe Photoshop on a computer ringing in at $1000 (I was able to get my PC version at a substantial discount because I’m a student, but even that discount didn’t make it a cheap purchase), a $10 iPad app is a relative steal. And, it’s a great app.
I spend a fair amount of time using Photoshop to take a photo from my camera, crop it to a specific banner size, do a few minor touch ups, and upload it onto a website. This is extremely simple to do on my iPad, thanks to this app and Apple’s own Camera Connection Kit. I can also take photos and edit them on the fly, which is a great usability feature. The pictures that I use for background photos on my iPad are easily able to be edited and enhanced right on my device. This saves a lot of time going between my iDevice and my computer.
In a few weeks, a friend and I will be taking pictures at our school’s gala. Rather than having to bring along my Mac and taking the time to boot it up and upload the pictures. I can just plug the memory cards into my iPad and upload them right there. And, I have the power to edit some of the pictures as I go.
I knew that Adobe would create a good product with Photoshop Touch on the iPad, but I was completely blown away. The features and usability of this app excede my expectations. This is easily the best $10 I have spent on my iPad. It’s a fantastic app, and I would highly recommend it to any photography enthusiasts with an iPad.
