If you have not picked up the trend yet, I am going to try my best to do a post for each day that I am in Norway.
Today, things are starting to feel routine. I do not feel quite as out of place as I did the first couple of days. Of course, it does not yet feel like home, but I like it. Today was a special schedule for school, so there were no classes for us to attend. I slept in and took a shower at 9:00am. Then, I met with Anne and Kristen and we got some homework done. We then went to lunch. Everybody says that Norwegians eat a lot of bread, and while it has been a fair amount, I was expecting quite a bit more. After lunch, we went outside where I listened to my music, took some pictures, and started reading “Surprised by Hope” by NT Wright on my iPad. I really like the book so far. There was one kid, whose name I never did learn, that knew I had the iPad 2 and asked if he could look at it. He has the first generation, but wanted to see the new one. I think he liked it. My iPad has become somewhat of a commodity over here. There was one girl two days ago who I talked to that had bought the first iPad, sold it, and is planning on getting the new one when she goes to Miami in April. Apple products are expensive over here, though. Someone released an iPad 2 price list today, and all but two of the models are most expensive in Norway (the two that are not are the most expensive in Sweden, and that price is barely more than what it is in Norway).
Kristina, one of the Norwegians who came to our school last year, took us to Grimstad so that we could get some money exchanged at the bank. After our trip to Grimstad, we met with the history teacher about our trip to Paris in two weeks. We just went over a few details and looked at pictures, that was about it.
When we got back, I spent about an hour talking to a friend who lives in the same dorm area, Magnus. Then, I spent an hour working on my US History College Credit Thesis paper. Then it was time for dinner. After dinner I again split my time between talking to people and doing my US History paper. All in all, I was able to get the rough draft about half-way completed. That is not too bad. At 6:30, we went to supper (fourth and final meal of the day).
After dinner, I went with some friends to the city of Arendal. I went with Bogdan, Martin, Magnus, and Richard. Basically, we went so that they could get about 30 pizzas for 10 kroners apiece (In American money, I watched people spend $50 on frozen pizza). I bought a few things myself: a Coca-Cola, a Norwegian chocolate bar, and marshmallow-filled chocolate eggs. I have so far had some of the Coca-Cola and two of the four eggs. They were very good. When we got back to our dorm, I showed Richard a few videos of our school on Youtube. That was basically my day. It was fun.
