Well, it’s that time of year again. No, not Christmas, that’s not yet for a few months. It’s time for all the kids to head back to school. I know from firsthand experience, because I am writing this post during some free time I have in my first period independent study class. I can’t believe that this is my 13th year of school, or that it’s my last year in conventional schooling. Next year, I will venture off to college and start a whole new way of life.
They say that time flies when you’re having fun, and I have to agree. Unlike more than a few of my classmates, I enjoy school. I like being able to learn and try new things. I actually think that math class is fun! As a Senior, I could have had a “fun” or “easy” schedule. But, I want to get the most out of the tuition my parents pay. That’s why I am taking two math classes (Statistics and Calculus) and have a total of five classes that I am taking for college credit.
As the new year begins for students, I just want to stress the importance of a few things. First of all, try your best in school at all times. You may think that grades don’t matter until high school, so they can be blown off. That, however, does something dangerous. What that does is create a poor work ethic, and that can be really hard to change when you get to classes where grades do matter. The second thing is to try and enjoy school. No, it won’t always be easy or fun, but it is a chance to learn. Besides, every other kid in that insanely hard math class is struggling just as hard as you. There isn’t a conspiracy out there to try and make you hate school.
