September 11, 2001 was a day that many Americans remember. It is also a day many Americans will never forget. The supposed safety of America was, in a few brief moments, shattered, and lives were altered forever. It is important that we not focus on the past, but instead look forward. That does not mean, however, that we are to forget what happened or who served. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the men and women who valiantly served in New York on that Tuesday in the midst of all the chaos, I would like to thank the men and women serving in the military who have worked overseas and at home to protect us from another such event, and I would like to honor the lives of the innocent victims that lost their lives on that day, whether being a passerby, a passenger on one of the flights, or a worker in one of the World Trade Center Towers. America really stepped in here at the right time to help prevent a situation. Ronald Reagan, in his inaugural address, said something to the effect of “Government is not the solution to our problem, government is our problem.” That belief stood true to President Reagan in every area except defense. Reagan understood that it is up to the government to protect its people from harm and danger. In the events following the 9/11 attacks, I know that President Reagan would be proud of the response from the American Government. In closing, thank you to all who served and lost their lives because of this terrible tragedy. God Bless America!
